This is an oil painting on primed linen canvas. I visited a lavender farm in Millsboro, DE several times last summer to plein air paint. It was only my second time painting outdoors in over 45 years. During the visit, I had done several small studies on canvas boards and had taken quite a few photos of the fields to bring back to my studio. Brittingham Farm is beautiful and the lavender was at peak bloom, bees buzzing all around. The colors were outstanding. The day following my visit to the farm, I painted this small canvas from one of the photos I had taken as a quick expression, capturing the vivid colors and beauty in the fields. My goal was to be loose and painterly allowing the colors and brush strokes to help the lavender come to life for the viewer as if they had stood in the field with me. Can you smell the lavender?
